Indians sign RHP Gavin Floyd
CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent RHP GAVIN FLOYD to a one-year Major League contract for the 2015 season.
Floyd, 31, owns a career Major League record of 72-72 with a 4.40 ERA in 208 appearances/196 starts with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves. He posted double-digit victories while making at least 29 starts with the White Sox over five consecutive seasons from 2008-12, finishing 10th in the American League in innings pitched (206.1) with a career-high 17 wins in 2008. The Baltimore, MD native was the fourth overall pick of the first round in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft by the Phillies and was eventually traded to the White Sox prior to the 2007 campaign, where he spent seven seasons pitching in the American League Central Division.
In 2013, Floyd was limited to five starts in his final season in Chicago (reconstructive right elbow surgery) and last season made 9 starts and posted a 2.65 ERA (54.1IP, 55H, 16ER, 13BB, 45K) with the Atlanta Braves before his season ended on June 19 (right elbow fracture).
