A's acquire LHP Eury De La Rosa from Arizona for Cash

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's acquired left-handed pitcher Eury De La Rosa from the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's designated right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodriguez for assignment The A's also announced that right-handed pitcher Jorge De Leon, who was designated for assignment Dec. 9, has been released.

De La Rosa began the 2014 season at Triple-A Reno and compiled a 2.52 ERA and .224 opponents batting average in 36 relief appearances with the Aces before he was promoted to Arizona July 5. He spent the remainder of the season with the Diamondbacks, going 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in 25 games. The 24-year-old left-hander allowed just two home runs in 36.2 innings and held right-handed hitters to a .233 batting average. De La Rosa was originally signed by Arizona out of the Dominican Republic in 2008 and made his Major League debut in 2013. He is 2-1 with a 4.21 ERA in 44 appearances in two seasons with the Diamondbacks.

Rodriguez appeared in seven games over two stints with the A's last year after missing the 2013 season following Tommy John surgery. He had a win, a 1.00 ERA and .129 opponents batting average. Rodriguez spent the balance of the season at Triple-A Sacramento where went 3-0 with a 1.97 ERA in 38 relief appearances.
