Club designates RHP Chris Martin for assignment

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has agreed to a two-year Major League deal with catcher Nick Hundley. To make room on the club's 40-man roster, the Rockies have designated right-handed pitcher Chris Martin for assignment. Terms of Hundley's deal were not disclosed, per club policy.

Hundley, 31, is a veteran of seven Major League seasons, having spent the majority of his career to date with the San Diego Padres (2008-2014). Hundley was traded to the Baltimore Orioles on May 24th last season, and finished the 2014 campaign with the Orioles. Overall in 2014, Hundley hit .243 (53-for-218) with 7 doubles, 6 home runs, 22 RBI and 18 runs in 83 games. The right-handed hitting catcher played in a career-high 114 games in 2013 with San Diego, when he also set career-high marks in runs (35), hits (87), doubles (19), home runs (13) and RBI (44). Hundley has caught 135 of the attempted 497 base stealers in his career (27.2-percent). He was originally selected by the Padres in the second round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arizona.

Martin, 28, made his Major League debut with the Rockies on April 26, 2014 at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Martin did not earn a decision in his 16 Big League games for the Rockies and posted a 6.89 ERA (15.2 ip, 12 er) with 4 walks and 14 strikeouts. He spent the remainder of 2014 at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where we went 1-3 with a 4.39 ERA (26.2 ip, 13 er), 9 walks and 36 strikeouts in 25 games. Martin was acquired by the Rockies, along with left-handed pitcher Franklin Morales, from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for infielder Jonathan Herrera on December 18, 2013.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
