A's agree to terms with RHP Jesse Chavez on one-year contract

The Oakland A's agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez on a one-year contract for the 2015 season, the club announced today.

Chavez began the 2014 season in the starting rotation but was moved to the bullpen following the acquisition of Jon Lester at the trading deadline. He went 8-7 with a 3.44 ERA in his 21 starts and 0-1 with a 3.54 ERA in 11 relief appearances. The 31-year-old right-hander combined for an 8-8 record and a 3.45 ERA in 32 games, 21 starts. Chavez had career highs in every category except games pitched and his ERA was a career low.

The A's have eight remaining players eligible for arbitration including Fernando Abad, Ryan Cook, Sam Fuld, Craig Gentry, Brett Lawrie, Jarrod Parker, Josh Reddick and Eric Sogard.
