Rangers acquire RHP Gonzalez Germen from New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations

Germen has pitched for Mets in each of last two seasons

The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has acquired right-handed pitcher Gonzalez Germen (pronounced jer-MEHN) from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations.

Germen, 27, was designated for assignment by the Yankees on January 13. The Yankees had acquired him in a December 19 trade for cash considerations after Germen was designated for assignment by the New York Mets on December 15. He had no record and a 4.75 ERA (16 ER/30.1 IP) in 25 relief appearances for the Mets last season, including 2 outings against the Rangers during a July series in New York. Germen missed over a month on the disabled list in 2014 due to a virus and abscess.

He has made 54 major league appearances the past two seasons with the Mets, going 1-2 with a 4.31 ERA (31 ER/64.2 IP) while averaging 8.9 strikeouts per 9 innings and holding right-handed batters to a .229 (33-144) average. Germen was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent in 2007.

With today's trade, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster.
