Red Sox Agree to Terms with OF/1B Daniel Nava on One-Year Contract
BOSTON, MA-The Boston Red Sox today agreed to terms with outfielder/first baseman Daniel Nava on a one-year, non-guaranteed contract for the 2015 season, thus avoiding salary arbitration. Terms were not disclosed.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.
Nava, 31, spent most of the 2014 season with the Red Sox, batting .270 (98-for-363) with 21 doubles, four home runs, 37 RBI, 33 walks, and 41 runs scored in 113 games. The switch-hitter led the team with a .295 (23-for-78) average with runners in scoring position and batted .293 (88-for-300) with all four home runs and a .372 on-base percentage against right-handed pitchers. From June through the end of the season, he topped the Red Sox and placed among American League leaders (min. 300 PA) with a .308 batting average (T-9th) and a .379 on-base percentage (11th). He also played 24 games at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Signed by Boston as a minor league free agent in January 2008, Nava has hit .273 (341-for-1,249) with 85 doubles, one triple, 23 home runs, 162 RBI, 140 walks, and a .362 on-base percentage in 395 career major league games, all with the Red Sox in 2010 and 2012-14.
With today's agreement, left-handed pitcher Wade Miley is the only remaining unsigned Red Sox player eligible for salary arbitration.
