Indians invite INF Michael Martinez to Major League camp
The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent INF MICHAEL MARTINEZ to a Minor League contract with a non-roster invitation to Major League spring training camp.
Martinez, 32, spent most of the 2014 season in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, hitting .244 (77-315) with 6 doubles, 6 triples, 1 home run and 32 RBI in 91 games at AAA Indianapolis, splitting time at second base, shortstop, third base and center field. The Santo Domingo, DR native also had two stints at the Major League level with the Pirates, appearing in 26 games between second base and the outfield. The switch-hitter began his professional career in the Washington organization in 2005 and was selected by the Phillies in the 2010 Rule V draft, spending the entire 2011 season with Philadelphia and was a member of their Division Series playoff roster.
