A's Claim OF Alex Hassan off Waivers from Baltimore

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's claimed outfielder Alex Hassan off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles, the club announced today. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's placed right-handed pitcher A.J. Griffin on the 60-day disabled list as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Hassan was claimed off waivers by the A's from Boston Nov. 17, 2014 but was then claimed by Baltimore off waivers three days later. He made his Major League debut with Boston in 2014 and went 1 for 8 (.125) with a walk in three games over two stints. The 26-year-old right-handed hitter spent the balance of the season with Triple-A Pawtucket where he batted .287 with eight home runs and 55 RBI in 114 games. Hassan added 60 walks for a .378 on-base percentage and his 31 doubles fueled a .426 slugging percentage. He was originally selected by Boston in the 20th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft and is a .291 career hitter in 538 games over six seasons in the minors.
