Plans announced for 100th anniversary salute to 1915 NL Champion Phillies on Thursday, April 9

A roster of 23 players etched their place in Phillies history by winning the franchise's first National League pennant in 1915. And now, on the 100^th anniversary of this historical event, the Phillies will pay homage to their first NL championship team with a special pre-game tribute on Thursday, April 9, prior to that night's 7:05 p.m. game against the Boston Red Sox at Citizens Bank Park.

Highlights of the 100^th Anniversary Salute to the 1915 Phillies include:

• Both Phillies and Red Sox players will wear 1915 era caps. The two teams played against each other during the 1915 World Series - the Phillies' first World Series appearance.
   
• The 1915 National League pennant will fly on the big flag pole alongside the American flag in Ashburn Alley (for that night only).
   
• Commemorative base jewels with Phillies and Red Sox 1915 logos will be featured on-field.
   
• 1915 Ceremonial First Pitch: Prior to Game 2 of the 1915 World Series at Baker Bowl in Philadelphia, Woodrow Wilson became the first U.S. president to attend a World Series game and throw out the ceremonial first pitch. That same first pitch will be re-created as "Woodrow Wilson" (with the help of American Historical Theater), will be throwing the baseball from the stands.
   
• A commemorative 1915 pennant giveaway will be available for the first 500 purchasers ONLY through a special Phillies Theme Night "100^th Anniversary Salute" ticket offer.
   
• PhanaVision will feature a special pre-game video tribute to the 1915 Phillies
   
• Two display cases, featuring memorabilia from 1915, will be available for fans to see in the Hall of Fame Club during the entire season. Items were provided by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Hunt Auctions, and Philadelphia native and baseball historian Bob Warrington. Fans may also visit the 1915 displays during ballpark tours throughout the season.
   
• Numerous 1915 stories and vintage photographs will also be posted on www.phillies.com/alumni.

About the 1915 Phillies

Led by a rookie manager named Pat Moran, the 1915 club, with three future baseball Hall of Fame players, went 90-62 on their way to Philadelphia's first National League pennant. 

The league's most dominant pitcher, 31-game winner Grover Cleveland Alexander, and leading power hitter, right fielder Gavvy Cravath, anchored the champions. Cravath led the league with 24 homers and 115 RBI. Playing in Baker Bowl, the Phillies led the league in attendance, drawing 449,898.

Following spring training in Coffee Pot Park in St. Petersburg, Florida, the 1915 Phillies began the season winning their first eight games, a club record start that hasn't been matched. They clinched the pennant with a win over the defending World Champion Boston Braves on September 29.

In their first-ever World Series appearance, the Phillies won the first game but lost the next four to the Boston Red Sox, all one-run decisions. One hundred years later, the Phillies open the season hosting the Red Sox at Citizens Bank Park, April 6.
