Texas Rangers Foundation just keep livin Students To Run in Sunday's Rock 'n Roll Dallas Half Marathon

Over 50 participants expected to run in downtown Dallas

Arlington, Texas---The Texas Rangers Foundation today announced that 54 students and teachers from its just keep livin high school program will participate in the Rock 'n Roll Dallas Half Marathon this coming Sunday morning, March 22.

In May 2011 the Rangers Foundation announced a partnership with Matthew McConaughey and his just keep livin foundation to create an after-school program centered on nutrition, exercise and wellness for local students. Participating schools in the program are Pinkston High School in Dallas; Sam Houston High School in Arlington; and Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth.

Over half of the individuals will be participating in the full Half Marathon, the largest group in the four years that the just keep livin students have been involved in this event. The others will take in the Two Person Half Marathon Relay. A group of Texas Rangers employees will join these participants in the race with another 60 students and teachers operating a water station near mile 10 of the course.

The Rock 'n Roll Dallas Half Marathon begins at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday with the starting line at South Lamar and Young Sts. in downtown Dallas. The race finishes at the American Airlines Center.

The race fees, t-shirts, and medals for the just keep livin students are being donated by the Competitor Group, which organizes and operates the Rock 'n' Roll events. In addition to running in the race, the just keep livin participants and Rangers employees have been fundraising to support the programs.

The just keep livin students are participating in the Half Marathon as motivation to keep them training throughout the school year. The students have been training twice a week as part of the just keep livin programs.

In the first four years of the Texas Rangers just keep livin program, nearly 90% of the student participants have shown marked improvements in their academic performance and attendance. The students have successfully completed half-marathons and numerous 5ks throughout the community.
