Pirates Set spring Training Attendance Record

The Pittsburgh Pirates have established records for total attendance and single game attendance during the 2015 Grapefruit League season. The Pirates have drawn 99,450 fans to their first 14 Spring Training home games at historic McKechnie Field. The record was surpassed with one game remaining this spring at the 92-year-old ballpark.

"Our fans have shown a wonderful commitment to this team from day one of Spring Training," Pirates President Frank Coonelly said. "We have made the fan experience in Bradenton a high priority, and our fans have responded repeatedly by coming out in record numbers." 

On Wednesday, March 18, the Pirates drew 9,018 fans to the night game against the Detroit Tigers, setting a single-game attendance record at McKechnie Field. Three days later on March 21, 8,963 fans attended the game against the Boston Red Sox, establishing a record for a day game at the stadium.

The average attendance at McKechnie Field this spring has been 7,104 per game after the first 14 dates. The Pirates are scheduled to play their final home game of the spring on Monday, March 30, against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Bradenton and McKechnie Field have been the Spring Training home of the Pirates since 1969.
