Rangers receive RHP Logan Verrett on waiver claim from Baltimore
Verrett was selected in the December Rule 5 Draft from New York Mets
Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has received right-handed pitcher Logan Verrett on a waiver claim from the Baltimore Orioles. Verrett was selected by Baltimore from the New York Mets in the Rule 5 Draft on December 11, 2014. To make room for Verrett on the 40-man roster, the Rangers have placed outfielder Antoan Richardson on the 60-day disabled list.
Verrett, 24, has posted no record with a 1.93 ERA (3 ER/14.0 IP) in 9 Grapefruit League games for the Orioles this spring, allowing 2 walks with 12 strikeouts. He pitched for Triple-A Las Vegas in the Mets system in 2014, going 11-5 with a 4.33 ERA (78 ER/162.0 IP) in 28 games/starts in the Pacific Coast League. He tied for the league lead in starts and ranked among PCL leaders in innings (2nd), wins (4th), and fewest walks-per-9-innings (5th, 1.89).
Verrett has a career 28-13 record and 3.90 ERA in 69 games/starts in the Mets system since being selected in the third round of the 2011 June draft. The Corpus Christi-area native attended Calallen (TX) High School before going to Baylor University.
Richardson had successful surgery on Friday morning to repair a herniated L4-L5 disc in his lower back, with the surgery performed by Dr. Drew Dossett in Dallas.
With today's transactions, the Rangers still have a full 40-man roster.
