A's Place Ben Zobrist on DL; Select Max Muncy from Nashville

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's placed infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist on the 15-day disabled list with a left medial meniscus tear, the club announced today. To take his spot on the roster, the A's selected infielder Max Muncy from Triple-A Nashville. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's designated left-handed pitcher Eury De La Rosa for assignment.

Zobrist was batting .240 with one home run and eight RBI in 14 games with the A's. He is 2-for-18 (.111) over his last six games after hitting .303 over his first eight contests. Zobrist started five games in left field, five at second base, two in right field and last night at designated hitter. This is his fourth career stint on the DL.

Muncy was batting .293 with one home run and 10 RBI in 15 games in his Triple-A debut with Nashville. He was tied for the Pacific Coast League with 12 walks and had a .408 on-base percentage. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter appeared in 13 games at first base and one at third base and will be making his Major League debut. Muncy was originally drafted by the A's in the fifth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft and is a .271 career hitter with 37 home runs and 196 RBI in 341 games in four professional seasons. He has appeared in 290 at first base, 23 at third base and one in right field.

De La Rosa has made seven appearances with Nashville and has allowed three unearned runs in 6.0 innings. He has not allowed a hit but has walked five and hit a batter while striking out four. De La Rosa was acquired from Arizona for cash, Dec. 18, 2014.
