RHP Tanner Scheppers optioned to Round Rock

Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock. Claudio (#58) will be in uniform for tonight's homestand opener against the Seattle Mariners.

To make room for Claudio, right-handed pitcher Tanner Scheppers has been optioned to Round Rock.

Claudio, 23, is 1-0 with a 1.86 ERA in 6 relief appearances for the Express this season (9.2 IP, 9 H, 2 R-ER, 1 BB, 6 SO). He has worked 2.0 or more innings 3 times and allowed runs in 2 of 6 outings with the Express. He posted no record with a 2.45 ERA (3 ER/11.0 IP) over 13 relief outings for Texas this spring, as opponents batted .256 with 4 walks against 14 strikeouts. The left-hander made his major league debut last season, compiling a 2.92 ERA (4 ER/12.2 IP) in 15 relief appearances over the final six weeks of the season.

Scheppers has an 11.25 ERA (4.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R-ER, 4 BB, 4 SO) in 5 relief appearances since being activated from the 15-day disabled list on April 17. He opened the year on the DL with a right ankle sprain.

With today's moves, the Rangers major league roster remains at the 40-man limit.
