Rhode Island Red Sox Service Scholarship recipients to be introduced at Fenway Park Saturday; Winner of Red Sox Foundation "Impact Awards" in Ocean State to be recognized

BOSTON, MA - As part of Rhode Island Day at Fenway Park on Saturday, May 2, the Red Sox Foundation will introduce the 30 recipients of the Rhode Island Red Sox Service Scholarship program, which awards $1,000 scholarships towards a student's college education based on academic performance, financial aid eligibility, and demonstrated community service. The Rhode Island Service Scholarships are supported by National Grid and ENEOS.
Ceremonies will take place before the 1:35 p.m. Red Sox-Yankees game. Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Daniel J. McKee is scheduled to attend.
The Rhode Island Service Scholarship program was introduced in 2012 by former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee, and Red Sox Principal Owner John W. Henry and his wife, Red Sox Foundation Board Member Linda Pizzuti Henry. The program has grown each year since its introduction, with a total of 30 students from 30 different Rhode Island public schools chosen this year, up from 25 in 2014, 20 in 2013, and 10 students in 2012.

The foundation will also honor the Rhode Island winner of the "IMPACT Awards" (Inspiring More Philanthropy Across Charities Together), a new program inspired by Mrs. Henry that provides Red Sox fans in the five New England states outside of Massachusetts with the opportunity to vote for their favorite local non-profits to decide which charities will be awarded grants.
Children's Friend of Rhode Island, a child welfare organization that provides family support, mental health, and child development services throughout the Ocean State, is the winner of the Rhode Island IMPACT Award and will receive a $10,000 grant from the Red Sox Foundation during Saturday's pregame ceremonies.
The May 2 ceremonies are part of Rhode Island Day at Fenway Park, presented by ALEX AND ANI. The ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by ALEX AND ANI President Harlan Kent. The company is based in Cranston, Rhode Island.
The national anthem will be sung by 13-year-old Mia Douglas of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, one of three winners of the "Sing Your Way to Fenway" competition that took place at Red Sox Winter Weekend this past January.
The Cranston, Rhode Island, Police will carry the colors, and children from St. Mary's Home in North Providence will say "play ball."
