Royals announce several roster moves

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 8, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals announced several roster moves this afternoon. The club has reinstated shortstop Alcides Escobar from the seven-day disabled list (concussion), for tonight's 6:08 p.m. (CT) game against the Detroit Tigers. 

The club also announced that third baseman Mike Moustakas has been placed on the Bereavement/Family Emergency List today. He will be eligible to return on Monday, May 11.

The Royals also placed left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas on the 15-day disabled list with a left flexor strain. His D.L. placement is retroactive to May 6, making him eligible for reinstatement on Thursday, May 21. To take Vargas' spot on the Major League roster, the Royals recalled right-handed pitcher Yohan Pino from Omaha.

Newly acquired catcher Drew Butera will be in uniform (#9) for tonight's game against Detroit. To make room for him on the 25-man roster, the club optioned catcher Francisco Pena to Triple-A following yesterday's game.
