Rangers purchase contract of inf Thomas Field from Round Rock; option 2b Rougned Odor to Round Rock

The Texas Rangers announced this afternoon that the club has purchased the contract of infielder Thomas Field (#39) from Triple-A Round Rock and optioned second baseman Rougned Odor to Round Rock.

Field, 28, will be in uniform tonight seeking his Rangers debut. He has spent the entire season with the Express, batting .298 (31-104) with 5 home runs, 8 doubles, and 13 RBI in 28 games. He ranks among team leaders in doubles (1st), walks (1st, 13), home runs (T1st), runs (T1st, 17), and RBI (3rd), hitting .355 (11-31) against left-handed pitchers. Field has played primarily second base and has also seen action at shortstop. He walked in each of his final 6 games at Triple-A. He was in Rangers spring camp as a non-roster invitee, batting .250 (14-56) with 2 home runs, 3 doubles, 9 RBI, and 10 runs scored in 24 games before he was reassigned to minor league camp on April 4.

Field saw limited major league time each year from 2011-13, batting .224 with 3 RBI in 33 major league games with Colorado (2011-12) and Los Angeles-AL (2013). Born in Austin, he attended Waco's Midway High School as well as Texas State University in San Marcos, and still resides near Waco in Hewitt, Texas.

Odor has batted .144 with one home run and 9 RBI in 29 games for Texas this season. The 21-year-old made the Opening Day roster for the first time and started 23 of the club's first 24 games at second base.

With today's moves, the Rangers major league roster is now at the 40-man limit.
