LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) announced today its 2015 Dodgers RBI Opening Day for the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation which will take place at Franklin D. Roosevelt Park, 7600 Graham Avenue in Los Angeles, Saturday, May 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dodger Manager Don Mattingly will attend the Dodgers RBI Opening Day and share brief remarks. Through his charity, Mattingly Charities, he will contribute batting gloves, metal bats and bat bags to this season's Dodgers RBI program. More than 400 participants are expected to attend and Dodger alumni Al Downing and Lee Lacy will partake.

"We are determined to use the power of sport to drive change in our community," said Nichol Whiteman, Executive Director, LADF. "LADF not only makes baseball and softball accessible through Dodgers RBI, we provide youngsters with education and health resources. We want to see an increase in youth participation in our urban neighborhoods and also, in the future, see Dodgers RBI alumni become consummate team players whether it be on a major league baseball diamond or in their field of choice."

Saturday marks the official start of the Dodgers RBI season at parks throughout the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, including the Dodgers DreamFields at Roy Campanella Park, Jesse Owens Community Regional Park, Mona Park, Roosevelt Park, Athens Park and Ted Watkins Memorial Park. LADF, through Dodgers RBI, provides uniforms and equipment, recruitment assistance, supplemental marketing assistance, cash grants for umpires and field maintenance, coaches clinics, special events and tournaments and education and health resources to all Dodgers RBI players. Last year, the program served 2,700 youth and this season more than 4,000 youngsters will participate. Dodgers RBI is offered at 23 locations in South Los Angeles, Compton and Venice. In addition to the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Venice, MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton and the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club are also partners this season.

All 400 participants will be in their Dodgers RBI uniforms and Saturday's program will include brief remarks from Dodgers RBI partners Bank of America, ARCO, the LA84 Foundation, Pitch In For Baseball and Don Mattingly Baseball Charities. Dodgers RBI County of Los Angeles Parks and Recreation official league games will begin May 23.

"This program is an extension of our long-standing partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers," said Kiesha Nix, Local Market Delivery project manager for Bank of America and Dodgers RBI Advisory Board Member. "We believe in giving support to community initiatives like RBI that give inner-city youth the opportunity to thrive while providing access to resources such as health, education and recreation. We are excited to bring our associates out once again to volunteer throughout the season's activities, as well as to provide financial education for both youth and parents with our `Better Money Habits' curriculum."

Dodgers RBI seeks to promote greater inclusion of under-resourced youth, increase participation and interest in baseball and softball, encourage academic participation and achievement, stress healthy habits and wellness and focus on fun, teamwork and fair play.

Dodgers RBI is part of MLB's overall Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program. MLB's RBI has served approximately two million young people since its inception, is administered by Major League Baseball and is designed to give young people from underserved and diverse communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball, while also encouraging academic achievement and success and teaching the value of teamwork and other important life lessons. RBI currently serves approximately 230,000 young men and women in over 300 programs established in approximately 200 cities worldwide. MLB and its Clubs have designated more than $30 million worth of resources to the RBI program, and all 30 Clubs support RBI leagues. For more information on MLB RBI, please visit mlb.mlb.com/rbi.
