Colorado Rockies recall outfielder Brandon Barnes from Triple-A

Club options outfielder Drew Stubbs to Albuquerque

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies on Wednesday recalled outfielder Brandon Barnes from Triple-A Albuquerque and optioned outfielder Drew Stubbs to the Isotopes.

Barnes, who turned 29 on May 15, has played in 33 games for Albuquerque since his April 1 option from Colorado.   He has hit .205 (27-for-132) with six doubles, five homers, 12 RBI, 10 walks and seven steals. Playing in 311 Major League games since his 2012 debut with Houston, Barnes has batted .242 (193-for-798) with 91 runs, 37 doubles, five triples, 17 homers, 41 walks and 17 steals.  

Barnes made the Rockies' Opening Day roster and played in 132 games last year, hitting .257 (75-for-292) with 37 runs, 17 doubles, four triples, eight homers, 27 RBI, 15 walks and five steals. He was 17-for-61 in 67 pinch-hit appearances in 2014, leading the Majors in hits, runs (12) and triples (3). He was acquired on Dec. 3, 2013 from the Houston Astros along with right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles in exchange for outfielder Dexter Fowler and a player to be named later (cash considerations).

Stubbs, 30, has played in 24 games with the Rockies, including 11 starts, batting .118 (6-for-51) with five runs, one double, two homers and five RBI.   In 788 Major League games over parts of seven seasons, Stubbs is a career .244 hitter (649-for-2,660) with 416 runs, 103 doubles, 18 triples, 86 homers, 271 RBI, 252 walks and 148 stolen bases.   He was acquired by the Rockies from Cleveland for left-handed pitcher Josh Outman on Dec. 18, 2013.

The Rockies have a full 40-man roster.
