Rangers place RHP Ohlendorf on 15-day DL, recall RHP Patton from Round Rock

Kansas City, Mo. - The Texas Rangers announced this morning that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 4, with a right groin strain. To take his place on the 25-man roster, the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton (#44) from Triple-A Round Rock.

Patton, 27, will be in uniform and available for today's series finale in Kansas City. He will be in his second stint with Texas this season, as he allowed 3 runs in 3.0 innings over 2 appearances with the club from May 4-13. He has spent the balance of the season with Round Rock, posting no record with a 0.53 ERA (1 ER/17.0 IP) in 16 relief appearances. Patton has gone 5-for-5 in save chances at Triple-A, holding opponents to a .175 (11-63) batting average with no home runs, 7 walks, and 22 strikeouts. He has 8.2 scoreless innings over his last 9 outings with Round Rock spanning his stint in the majors. He earned a save in his last Pacific Coast League appearance on Wednesday at Reno (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 10 pitches/8 strikes).

Patton was originally drafted by the Royals in the 24th round of the 2011 June draft and was acquired by Texas in a July 16, 2014 trade in exchange for Jason Frasor. He made his major league debut with the Rangers last season, going 1-0 with a 0.96 ERA (1 ER/9.1 IP).

Ohlendorf has gone 1-0 with one save and a 3.52 ERA (3 ER/7.2 IP) in 8 games since having his contract purchased from Round Rock on May 17. The first date he would be eligible to return from the disabled list is June 19.
