Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies named National League Player of the Week

Third baseman Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies has been named National League Player of the Week for the week of June 22nd-28th. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

In six games last week, Arenado hit .391 (9-for-23) with a Major League-best seven home runs, 14 RBI, a 1.348 slugging percentage and 31 total bases. He scored 10 runs last week, which was good for second-most in the Majors, while posting a .440 on-base percentage. The 24-year-old slugger hit safely in each of his six games, which included three multi-home run performances and two four-RBI efforts. On Sunday, he blasted a pair of home runs and drove in all three of Colorado's runs in a losing effort at San Francisco. In Friday's matchup between the two clubs, his two long balls and four RBI paved the way to an 8-6 win for the Rockies. In Tuesday's matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks, his two homers and four RBI led to a 10-5 win over the D-backs at Coors Field. The multi-homer game trifecta gave him five such performances in his career and four this season (also: May 3, 2015 and April 5, 2014). The pair of four-RBI efforts also tied a career high for the youngster (six times). Arenado, who was selected by the Rockies in the second round of the 2009 MLB Draft, has already set career highs in multiple offensive categories this season. His 24 home runs and 68 RBI both mark personal bests and currently rank third and first, respectively, in the Majors. This is the second career weekly award for the Gold Glove Award-winning third baseman, having also won for the week ending August 24, 2014.

Other noteworthy performances last week included Philadelphia's Maikel Franco (.360, 7 R, 3 HR, 13 RBI, .760 SLG, .407 OBP) and Cesar Hernandez (.500, 7 R, 12 H, 3 SB, .556 OBP); Curtis Granderson (.458, 11 H, 4 HR, 6 RBI, 1.042 SLG, .552 OBP) of the New York Mets; San Francisco's Buster Posey (.375, 6 R, 9 H, 3 2B, 12 RBI, .444 OBP); Zack Greinke (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 11 SO, 13.2 IP) of the Los Angeles Dodgers; Carlos Martinez (2-0, 2.77 ERA, 15 SO, 13.0 IP) of the St. Louis Cardinals; and Washington's Stephen Strasburg (2-0, 1.50 ERA, 15 SO, 12.0 IP).
