Dodgers Select Contract of Eric Surkamp, Option Daniel Coulombe

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp (#59) from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned left-hander Daniel Coulombe to Triple-A. To make room on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles transferred left-handed pitcher Paco Rodriguez (left elbow surgery) to the 60-day DL. 

Surkamp will be making his Dodger debut after being acquired from the Chicago White Sox on May 22 in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Blake Smith. He has won his last four decisions with Oklahoma City, going 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA (9 ER/28.0 IP) in his last five games (four starts) since June 8, and has combined to go 7-2 with one save and a 3.77 ERA in 18 games (seven starts) with Triple-A Charlotte (White Sox) and OKC this year, last pitching on Tuesday at Memphis and allowing one run on five hits in 6.0 innings (82 pitches). Surkamp, 27, has appeared in 42 games (seven starts) in three big league seasons with the Giants (2011, 2013) and White Sox (2014), going 4-3 with a 6.20 ERA. He was originally selected by the Giants in the sixth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of North Carolina State University.

In six stints with the Dodgers this year, Coulombe has allowed seven runs in 8.1 innings in five appearances (7.56 ERA).

Rodriguez underwent arthroscopic left elbow surgery on July 2.
