Nationals reinstate RHP David Carpenter from paternity list

The Washington Nationals reinstated right-handed pitcher David Carpenter from the paternity list on Thursday, and optioned right-handed pitcher Taylor Hill to Triple-A Syracuse. President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Carpenter, 29, is 0-0 with a 1.50 ERA in eight games (6.0 IP) with the Nationals. Acquired from the New York Yankees on June 11, Carpenter is 0-1 with a 4.01 ERA in 30 total games (24.2 IP) this season. He and his wife, Brittny, welcomed their first child, Darrell David Carpenter IV, on Monday, July 6.

Hill, 26, returns to Syracuse after a one-day stay with the Nationals. In six games at the Major League-level this season (12.0 IP), Hill is 0-0 with a 3.75 ERA. In four of his six appearances out of the Nationals' bullpen, Hill has worked multiple innings.
