Dodgers Claim Preston Guilmet
LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today claimed right-handed reliever Preston Guilmet from Tampa Bay and optioned him to the minors. To create room on the 40-man roster, Los Angeles designated left-handed pitcher Chris Reed for assignment.
Guilmet, 27, has posted a 1.84 ERA in 23 combined appearances with Triple-A Buffalo (Toronto) and Triple-A Durham (Tampa Bay) this year. In eight minor league seasons, he has gone 22-16 with 103 saves and a 2.69 ERA in 259 games (15 starts), while limiting opponents to a .213 batting average and posting a 1.02 WHIP. Guilmet earned recognition as a MiLB.com organization All-Star in 2012 and 2013 with the Indians, as well as selections as a league All-Star at every level during his minor league career.
Guilmet made his Major League debut in 2013 with the Indians and has gone 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in 17 big league appearances with Cleveland (2013), Baltimore (2014) and Tampa Bay (2015). He was originally selected by the Indians in the ninth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Arizona.
Reed, 25, has gone 2-2 with a 5.97 ERA in 24 combined games this year with Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City. In five minor league seasons, the Cleveland High School (Reseda) product has an 11-33 record with a 4.28 ERA in 103 games (73 starts) after being selected by the Dodgers in the first round (16th overall) in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Stanford University.
