Texas Rangers roster moves for July 17

Perez reinstated from 60-day DL; Telis recalled from Round Rock; Corporan placed on 15-day DL

Houston, Texas - The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves:

-- LHP Martin Perez (#33) reinstated from the 60-day disabled list to start on Friday against the Astros in Houston.

-- C Tomas Telis (#6) recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.

-- C Carlos Corporan placed on 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13 with a sprained left thumb.

Perez is scheduled to make his first major league start since May 10, 2014 when he lost to Boston at Globe Life Park. He was placed on the DL on May 14 and had Tommy John surgery to repair a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow on May 19. The left-hander was 4-3, 4.38 in eight total starts a year ago, going 4-0, 1.42 in his first five outings of the year. He has a career major league record of 15-13 with a 4.13 ERA in 40 games/34 starts.

Perez was 0-1, 4.56 (13 ER/25.2 IP) in six starts on rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco (3.18 ERA in 2 GS) and Round Rock (0-1, 4.95 in 4 GS). He lost to New Orleans, 7-4 on Sunday night in his last outing (6.0 IP, 12 H, 5 R-ER, 0 BB, 4 SO, 96 pitches).

Telis has spent the entire season at Round Rock, batting .291 with 5 homers and 25 RBI in 70 games. He leads with Express with 43 runs and 82 hits and has thrown out 27 of 56 runners trying to steal (48.2%). The switch-hitter has made starts at catcher (50), DH (17), and 1B (3). Telis hit .250 with 8 RBI in 18 games in his major league debut with Texas in 2014. He played in Wednesday's Triple-A All-Star Game in Omaha, going 0-for-2.

Corporan has been bothered by a sore left thumb for the past two weeks and re-aggravated the injury during Thursday's workout. He is batting .178 with 3 homers and 15 RBI in 33 games/30 starts at catcher in 2015. 

RHP Roman Mendez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Monday. Texas' major league roster is now at 40 players.

In addition, left-handed pitcher Ross Detwiler cleared unconditional release waivers today. Detwiler was designated for assignment on July 11 and placed on release waivers on July 15.
