D-backs agree to terms with Dansby Swanson

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) have agreed to terms with shortstop Dansby Swanson (@LieutenantDans7), the first-overall selection in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President, Baseball Operations De Jon Watson.

Swanson, 21, hit .335 (94-for-281) with 24 doubles, 6 triples, 15 home runs, 64 RBI, 16 stolen bases and 76 runs scored during his junior season with Vanderbilt University. The Golden Spikes Award finalist, given to the nation's top collegiate player, ranked second among NCAA Division I leaders in total bases (175), third in hits and runs scored, 11th in doubles, 18th in home runs and 20th in RBI. Swanson won the Rawlings Gold Bat Award as the National Player of the Year, earned First-Team NCAA Division I All-America accolades and was named the Brooks Wallace Award winner as the top shortstop.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder was rated by both MLB.com and Baseball America as the No. 1 collegiate prospect entering the draft and No. 2 overall. Swanson, who moved to shortstop prior to this season, was named the Most Outstanding Player in the 2014 College World Series as the Commodores won their first-ever championship, and played with USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team last summer.
