A's trade RHP Tyler Clippard to New York Mets for RHP Casey Meisner

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's traded right-handed pitcher Tyler Clippard and cash considerations to the New York Mets for minor league right-handed pitcher Casey Meisner, the club announced today.

Clippard was 1-3 with a 2.79 ERA in 37 relief appearances and saved a team-leading 17 games for the A's. He held the opposition to a .175 batting average, which was eighth lowest among American League relievers, and had a .100 mark against left-handed hitters. However, he issued 21 walks, which tied for second most among AL relievers. The 30-year-old right-hander was also tied for third in the AL with four blown saves and had the third lowest save percentage at 81.0%. Clippard was acquired from Washington Jan. 14, 2015 for Yunel Escobar and is 38-28 with 51 saves and a 2.87 ERA in 457 career appearances with the Yankees (2007), Nationals (2008-14) and A's (2015).

Meisner began the season at Single-A Savannah of the South Atlantic League and went 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA in 12 starts with the Sand Gnats. He was promoted to Single-A St. Lucie of the Florida State League June 27 where he went 3-2 with a 2.83 ERA in six starts. The 20-year-old right-hander combined for a 10-4 record and a 2.35 ERA in 18 starts overall. Meisner was originally selected by the Mets in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Cypress Woods High School in Texas and is 15-10 with a 2.89 ERA in 41 games, including 35 starts, in three professional seasons.
