Colorado Rockies Acquire Shortstop Jose Reyes, Three Pitchers from Toronto Blue Jays for Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, LaTroy Hawkins

The Colorado Rockies announced Tuesday that they have acquired shortstop Jose Reyes and right-handed pitchers Miguel Castro, Jeff Hoffman and Jesus Tinoco from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and right-handed pitcher LaTroy Hawkins.

Reyes, who turned 32 on June 11, is a lifetime .291 hitter with 1,009 runs, 329 doubles, 115 triples, 115 homers, 602 RBI, 485 walks and 471 steals. This season, Reyes is batting .285 (82-for-288) with 36 runs, 17 doubles, four homers, 34 RBI, 17 walks and 16 stolen bases.

A native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, Reyes made his Major League debut in 2003 for New York (NL), playing for the Mets from 2003-2011. A four-time All-Star, he played one season for Miami (2012) and parts of three campaigns with the Blue Jays. He ranks second among active Major League players in triples (115) and steals (471).

Castro, 20, made his Major League debut on Opening Day. He is 0-2 over 13 relief appearances, allowing seven runs (six earned) in 12.1 innings in the Majors. He has a career Minor League record of 18-10 with a 2.62 ERA in 55 games, 35 starts, fanning 214 in 195.1 innings. This season he is 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA (24.2 IP, 10 ER) in 16 games, five starts, combined with Triple-A Buffalo and Class-A Dunedin. A native of La Romana, Dominican Republic, he was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2012.

Hoffman, 22, was drafted by the Blue Jays in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft from East Carolina University. This season, the 6-foot-4 right-hander is 3-3 with a 2.93 ERA (67.2 IP, 22 ER) over 13 starts between Class-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire.

Tinoco, who turned 20 April 30, is 2-6 with a 3.54 ERA (81.1 IP, 32 ER) in 15 starts at Class-A Lansing this season. From San Antonio de Maturin, Venezuela, he made his professional debut in 2012 after signing with Toronto as a non-drafted free agent on Sept. 22, 2011.

Tulowitzki, who turned 30 last October, played from 2006-2015 with the Rockies, batting .299 with 660 runs, 224 doubles, 24 triples, 188 homers and 657 RBI. He drew 435 walks and stole 55 bases. He is a five-time All-Star, two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner and a two-time Silver Slugger Award recipient.

Tulowitzki was drafted in the first round (seventh pick) of the 2005 draft out of Long Beach State University. His career .299 average ranks seventh among active National League players.

Hawkins, 42, has a career Major League record of 74-94 with a 4.32 ERA (1451.0 IP, 697 ER) with 126 saves and 969 strikeouts over 1024 appearances, including 98 starts. His 21-year career includes stints with 10 organizations: the Minnesota Twins (1995-2003), Chicago Cubs (2004-2005), San Francisco Giants (2005), Baltimore Orioles (2006), Rockies (2007, 2014-2015), New York Yankees (2008), Houston Astros (2008-09), Milwaukee Brewers (2010-2011), Los Angeles Angels (2012) and New York Mets (2013). Hawkins was drafted by the Twins in the seventh round of the 1991 draft from West Side High School in Gary, Ind.
