A's Recall RHP R.J. Alvarez from Triple-A Nashville

The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitcher R.J. Alvarez from Triple-A Nashville, the club announced today. Alvarez takes the roster spot of Tyler Clippard, who was traded to the Mets yesterday.

Alvarez joins the A's for the third time this year and has a 13.00 ERA, .325 opponents batting average and four home runs allowed in 10 relief appearances. He also has 16 strikeouts in 9.0 innings. The 24-year-old right-hander was on the A's Opening Day roster and allowed nine runs in six appearances before he was optioned to Nashville April 22. Alvarez allowed five runs in three innings during his second stint from May 2-7. He is 2-3 with five saves and a 4.13 ERA in 21 relief appearances with Nashville. Alvarez had a .244 opponents batting average with the Sounds, including .170 against right-handed hitters, and did not allow a home run in 24.0 innings.
