Indians Promote Armstrong & Almonte from AAA

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:

Recalled RHP SHAWN ARMSTRONG (#51) and OF ABRAHAM ALMONTE (#35) from the AAA Columbus Clippers.

Optioned OF TYLER HOLT to AAA Columbus.

Placed RHP CODY ANDERSON on the 15-day Disabled List with left oblique strain.

Armstrong, 24, has spent the entire 2015 season at AAA Columbus where he has gone 1-2 with 14 saves and a 2.25 ERA in 40 relief appearances (44.0IP, 33H, 11ER, 22BB, 69K, 0HR, .208avg). He is currently tied for 4th in the International League in saves (14), tied for 6th in appearances (40) and owns a 0.73 ERA over his last 20 games since June 10 (24.2IP, 14H, 2R/ER, 39K). Armstrong was Cleveland's 18th round selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft and owns a five-year professional ERA of 2.40 in 168 relief appearances (206.2IP, 156H, 55ER, 269K). The New Bern, NC native is making his debut at the Major League level.

Almonte, 26, was acquired from the San Diego Padres on July 31 at the trading deadline in exchange for LHP Marc Rzepczynski and appeared in 2 games at Columbus (2-8, 2R, 3B, BB). Prior to the trade he split the season between San Diego and AAA El Paso, hitting .275 (67-244) with 18 doubles, 2 3B, 4 HR, 35 RBI and 11 steals in 61 games at Triple-A. On the year with the Padres he has batted .204 (.11-54) with 3 2B, 4RBI and 1 steal in 31 games. The 5-9, switch-hitting centerfielder began his professional career after signing with the Yankees in 2005 out of the Dominican Republic and was traded to the Mariners in February 2013, spending one and a half seasons in the Mariners organization prior to being acquired by San Diego last July 31.
