CHICAGO - Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs today announced the tentative 2016 regular season schedule. The Cubs will open their 141st season at the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday, April 5 with the Wrigley Field opener taking place the following Monday night, April 11, against the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs will begin the 2016 campaign on the road for the 11th time in the last 15 seasons, and for the first time will begin a season in interleague play. The Cubs open a season in the state of California for the first time since 1984 when they started off in San Francisco. The Cubs last opened a season in Los Angeles in 1960 against the Dodgers.

After two games against the Angels, the Cubs conclude their season-opening six-game, two-city road trip with a return to Arizona for four games against the Diamondbacks, April 7-10. The Cubs begin their Wrigley Field slate the next day against the Cincinnati Reds, the start of a season-opening six-game homestand against the Reds (April 11, 13-14) and Colorado Rockies (April 15-17).

The 2016 schedule features interleague play against the American League West and the annual home-and-home with the Chicago White Sox, which features a pair of two-game series over four Summer days from July 25-26 (at U.S. Cellular Field) and July 27-28 (at Wrigley Field).

In addition to the White Sox games, the Cubs interleague schedule includes hosting three A.L. West opponents: the Texas Rangers (three games, July 15-17), the Seattle Mariners (three games, July 29-31) and the Angels (two games, August 9-10). The Cubs travel to the Angels to start the season, play at Oakland (three games, August 5-7) and play at Houston (three games, September 9-11). The season-opening series against the Angels is Chicago's lone interleague series prior to the All-Star Break.

The Cubs 2016 tentative schedule features five three-series homestands and five three-city road trips (after only two three-series homestands and two three-city road trips in 2015).

The Cubs are scheduled to host four holiday games in 2015: Mother's Day, May 8 vs. Washington, Memorial Day Monday, May 30 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers, Father's Day, June 19 vs. Pittsburgh and the Fourth of July vs. Cincinnati. The Cubs will be on the road for Labor Day Monday, September 5 in Milwaukee.
