Prince Fielder selected as 2015 American League Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News

Fielder is the seventh Ranger to capture TSN Award

Arlington, Texas-Prince Fielder of Texas Rangers has been selected as the recipient of the 2015 American League Comeback Player of the Year by The Sporting News, it was announced this morning.

The Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Awards are selected annually by the players in each league. Fielder received 112 of the 156 votes cast by a panel of A.L. players.

He becomes the seventh Ranger all-time to capture the A.L. TSN Award, joining Ferguson Jenkins (1974), Jose Guzman (1991), Jose Canseco (1994), Kevin Elster (1996), Ruben Sierra (2001), and Vladimir Guerrero (2010). The Sporting News began presenting the awards in 1965.

After appearing in just 42 games due to a neck injury in 2014, Fielder batted .305 with 23 home runs and 98 RBI in 158 games for the A.L. West Division Champion Rangers this season. He ranked third in the league with 187 hits, tied for third with 57 multi-hit games, had the A.L.'s sixth best batting average, and produced the 9th most RBI. Fielder started 157 games as the DH (139) or first baseman (18).

Acquired from Detroit on November 20, 2013, Fielder played his last game in 2014 on May 16 before undergoing season ending surgery on May 27 for a cervical fusion of the C5-C6 discs in his neck.

CORPORAN AND RICHARDSON ELECT FREE AGENCY: Catcher Carlos Corporan and outfielder Antoan Richardson have refused outright minor league assignments and elected free agency. Both players cleared outright waivers on October 21.
