Fenway Sports Group hires award-winning sports jounalist Gordon Edes as its strategic communications advisor and Red Sox team historian

Fenway Sports Group today announced the hiring of award-winning sports journalist Gordon Edes as its strategic communications advisor and as the Red Sox team historian; Edes will report directly to Principal Owner, John W. Henry, Chairman, Tom Werner and President of Fenway Sports Group, Mike Gordon.

Edes has been a reporter for 35 years; the last 18 spent covering the Boston Red Sox for the Boston Globe and ESPNBoston.com. In the course of his career, he has covered all four major professional American sports for the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, National Sports Daily, and the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, covering World Series, Super Bowls, NBA finals, Stanley Cup finals and Winter Olympics in Sarajevo and Calgary. As Red Sox beat reporter and "On Baseball" columnist for the Globe, Edes chronicled World Series titles won by the team in 2004 and 2007, and did the same for ESPN when the Sox won its third Series title in 10 seasons in 2013.

His work has been honored on multiple occasions by the Associated Press Sports Editors.

A native of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, where he once served as a stringer covering his high school teams for the Fitchburg Sentinel, Edes attended North Park University in Chicago. His eagerness to launch his journalism career at the Tribune in 1976 left him two credits short of obtaining his degree in history, for which his mother has yet to forgive him.

"I am deeply gratified and humbled by the good fortune of spending nearly four decades in journalism, especially serving a readership as loyal and discerning as followers of the Red Sox,'' Edes said. "I welcome the opportunity to apply my skill set and experience to serve Fenway Sports Group, and the Red Sox, in my new position.

"I am particularly honored to continue the work of the late Dick Bresciani as the Club's team historian. I admire ownership's commitment to preserving the rich tradition of the team and Fenway Park, and look forward to enhancing the understanding of that history for a new generation of Red Sox fans.''
