Felix Hernandez teams with MLBPA & MLB to contribute $100,000 to five Seattle nonprofits; hosts clinic for kids

Contribution is part of the "Players Going Home" program

WHAT: Seattle Mariners pitcher Felix Hernandez will present grants totaling $100,000 to five Seattle area nonprofits as part of the Major League Baseball Players Association/Major League Baseball Joint Youth Initiative Players Going Home program.

Immediately following the check presentation ceremony, Hernandez will host an instructional clinic for children at the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club.

Background information:

Seattle organizations receiving grants as part of the newly-created Players Going Home program are:

· $30,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of King County (which administers the Reviving Baseball in Innercities Program in Seattle)

· $30,000 for Washington State Little League Districts 8/9 Challenger program (for children with disabilities)

· $20,000 for Baseball Beyond Borders (Seattle program that connects urban youth with baseball)

· $10,000 for Seattle Central Little League

· $10,000 for Seattle Children's Hospital Strong Against Cancer Initiative

The Players Going Home program is part of the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and Major League Baseball's previously announced $30 million jointly-funded and jointly-administered youth initiative created to improve the caliber, effectiveness and availability of amateur baseball and softball programs across the United States and Canada. A portion of the $30 million has been allocated to create the Players Going Home program to allow players an opportunity to demonstrate their gratitude and appreciation to those who have helped them along the path to Major League success - either in their hometowns and/or the places they now call home.
