White Sox Sign RHP Jacob Turner

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.5-million contract with free agent right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner.

Turner, 24, was non-tendered by the White Sox on December 2 after being claimed off waivers from the Cubs on October 29. He spent most of the 2015 season on the Cubs disabled list with a strained flexor tendon in his right elbow but made two starts with Class AA Tennessee in June during a rehabilitation assignment, going 1-1 with a 2.00 ERA (2 ER/9.0 IP).

Turner, 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, is 11-25 with a 4.97 ERA (165 ER/298.2 IP) and 192 strikeouts in 61 games (51 starts) over parts of four major-league seasons with Detroit (2011-12), Miami (2013-14) and the Cubs (2014).

Turner was traded to Miami from the Tigers on July 23, 2012 as part of a five-player deal that included pitcher Anibal Sanchez. He originally was selected by Detroit in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2009 draft out of Westminster Christian Academy in St. Charles, Mo.
