Indians invite two to Major League camp

CLEVELAND, OH -  The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has signed free agent OF FRED LEWIS and RHP JEREMY ACCARDO to Minor League contracts with  non-roster invitations to Major League spring training camp.

Lewis, 31, owns a Major League career batting average of .267 (412-1542) with 91 doubles, 21 triples, 27 home runs and 136 RBI in 517 games with the San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds. He has also scored 259 runs and owns a career on-base pct. of .345.  His 11 triples in 2008 were tied for second in the National League and also stole 21 bases while with the SF Giants. He spent 2011 with Cincinnati where he hit .230 (42-183) with 7 2B, 3HR & 19RBI in 81 games after beginning the season on the DL with a strained right oblique.

Accardo, 30, owns a career Major League ERA of 4.22 and 52 saves in 235 relief appearances with the Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants since debuting in 2005 (247.1IP, 246H, 116ER, 95BB, 176K, .261AVG).  His best season to date came in 2007 as Toronto's closer, going 4-4 w/30 saves and a 2.14 ERA in 64 games (67.1IP, 51H, 16ER), finishing 8th in the American League in saves.  The Phoenix, AZ native spent the 2011 season in the Baltimore organization, splitting time between the Orioles (31G, 5.73ERA) and Triple-A Norfolk (26G, 2.16ERA).  He finished the Triple-A season allowing just 1 run over his last 17.2 innings of work (14G, 10H, 0.51ERA).
