Chicago Cubs to host seventh annual race to Wrigley 5K Run Presented by AthletiCo

Proceeds from April 14 race benefit Chicago Cubs Charities & Children's Memorial Hospital

CHICAGO The Chicago Cubs will host the seventh annual Race to Wrigley 5K Run, presented by AthletiCo, Saturday, April 14, at Wrigley Field. Registration is now open.

The Race to Wrigley begins at 8 a.m. at the corner of Clark and Addison streets. The course route proceeds through the streets of the Lakeview neighborhood before returning to the Friendly Confines. Runners will make their way through Wrigley Field’s ground level concourse, finishing under the famed Wrigley Field Marquee at Clark and Addison.

Race to Wrigley 5K Run proceeds benefit Chicago Cubs Charities. Chicago Cubs Charities provides increased access to sports opportunities and targets improvements in health, fitness and education for those at risk. This year, Chicago Cubs Charities will again donate all personal fundraising proceeds to Children’s Memorial Hospital. The top fundraising team and individual fundraiser will receive tickets to the April 24 Cubs game against the St. Louis Cardinals and be recognized in an on-field pre-game ceremony. The top three overall fundraisers will each receive an autographed official Cubs jersey. New this year, anyone who raises more than $1,000 will have the opportunity to run a post-race victory lap around the bases of Wrigley Field.

“The Race to Wrigley 5K Run has become a tradition within the running community and we’re proud to offer a new incentive this year by letting participants who raise additional dollars for Children’s Memorial Hospital run the bases,” said Mike Lufrano, Cubs executive vice president of community affairs. “The Race to Wrigley is one of the best ways to start the baseball season.”

Participants may register at www.racetowrigley.com. Registration is $38 for a chip-timed run or $33 for a fun run. The chip-timed run price will increase to $40 and the fun run will increase to $35 starting March 26. The chip-timed run begins at 8 a.m. and the fun run begins at 8:10 a.m.

There will be limited free event parking in the Cubs Green Lot on Grace Street at Clifton Avenue, just east of Clark Street.

All participants will receive a Race to Wrigley 5K running shirt and are encouraged to wear it on the day of the race.
