Padres recall RHP Brad Brach from Triple-A Tucson
Place RHP Tim Stauffer on 15-Day DL. RHP Erik Hamren clears outright wavers and is assigned to Double-A San Antonio.
The San Diego Padres today announced that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Brad Brach from Triple-A Tucson and placed right-handed pitcher Tim Stauffer on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 4) with a strained right elbow. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.
Brach, 25, is making his first appearance on an Opening Day roster after posting a 3-1 record and 1.69 ERA (2 ER/10.2 IP) over 12 relief outings during Spring Training. He made his Major League debut with the Padres last season, going 0-2 with a 5.14 ERA (4 ER/7.0 IP) in nine relief appearances. A minor league closer with 112 saves over his four-year career, Brach has gone 12-11 with a 2.22 ERA (55 ER/223.1 IP) in 206 relief outings since being signed as a 42nd-round selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.
Stauffer, 29, made six starts this Spring, going 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA (17 ER/22.2 IP). Originally signed as a first-round selection in the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, he has gone 23-31 with a 3.92 ERA (190 ER/436.0 IP) in 95 games (69 starts) over parts of six Major League seasons with the Padres.
In addition, right-handed pitcher Erik Hamren has cleared outright waivers and has been assigned to Double-A San Antonio. With today’s moves, the Padres currently have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
