Jed Lowrie To Be Reinstated From Dl, Brian Bixler Optioned To Triple A

Lowrie Expected To Play Friday Night in Miami

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have optioned IF Brian Bixler to Triple A Oklahoma City, effective today, and will reinstate IF Jed Lowrie from the 15-day Disabled List on Friday, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today.

Lowrie, who began the 2012 regular season on the DL after spraining his right thumb in a Spring Training game on March 28 vs. Miami, is expected to be ready to play on Friday. In two rehab games this week (Tue-Wed) with Oklahoma City, Lowrie was 3x6 (.500) with three RBI, starting both games at shortstop. His DL stint was backdated to begin on March 29.

Prior to the injury, Lowrie hit .333 (12x36) in 14 Spring Training games with two home runs and seven RBI. Lowrie was acquired from Boston along with RHP Kyle Weiland on December 14 in exchange for RHP Mark Melancon.

Bixler appeared in five games for the Astros with one start, which came on 4/7 vs. COL at second base. He made the Astros Opening Day roster after hitting .242 in 24 Spring Training games with three home runs and seven RBI.
