PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have selected the contract of infielder Cody Ransom from Triple-A Reno and placed outfielder Chris Young on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder contusion, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Ransom, 36, appeared in 10 games with Reno this season, batting .294 (10-for-34) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 9 RBI. In 2011, he hit .317 (118-for-372) with 29 doubles, 27 home runs and 92 RBI in 101 games with the Aces and went 5-for-33 (.152) in 12 games with the D-backs. Ransom will wear No. 1.

Young, 28, was batting .410 (16-for-39) with 4 doubles, 5 home runs and 13 RBI in 11 games with the D-backs this season.  He ranks among the NL leaders in slugging percentage (2nd, .897), home runs (2nd), total bases (2nd, 35), on-base percentage (T-2nd, .500) and RBI (T-3rd). Young’s 13 RBI in the club’s first 10 games was the fourth-highest total all-time, trailing Luis Gonzalez (16 in 2001), his own 2010 total (15) and Mark Reynolds (14 in 2008).
