Cardinals activate Allen Craig from D.L.

Outfielder Erik Komatsu designated for assignment

The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled infielder/outfielder Allen Craig from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Memphis (AAA) and activated him from the 15-day disabled list for tonight's series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

To make room for Craig on the team's 25-man active roster, the Cardinals have designated outfielder Erik Komatsu for assignment.  Komatsu, 24, was a Rule 5 selection by the team last December.

Craig, 27, was sidelined from the beginning of the season as he continued recovery from right knee surgery that took place last off-season.

The right-handed hitting Craig hit a pair of homers last night for Memphis while playing first base and completed his rehab assignment with the Triple-A team by batting .353 (6-for-17) with 7 RBI in four games.  He batted .364 (4-for-11) with a homer and RBI in three games at Palm Beach (A) prior to his transfer to Memphis.

Craig batted .315 with 11 homers and 40 RBI in 75 games for the Cardinals last season and he added four home runs (three in the World Series) during last season's postseason, capping it all off by catching the final out of World Series Game 7.
