Club Recalls INF DJ LeMahieu from Triple-A Colorado Springs

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed infielder Jonathan Herrera on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain. To replace Herrera on the active roster, the Rockies have recalled infielder DJ LeMahieu from Triple-A Colorado Springs. LeMahieu (#9) will be in uniform and available in tonight's game at Miami.

Herrera, 27, is hitting .239 (16-for-67) with three doubles, two home runs, four RBI and 12 runs scored in 26 games for the Rockies this season. The utility infielder has made starts at both second base (7 stars) and third base (9 starts) this season while also seeing time at shortstop. Herrera has a career batting average of .255 (161-for-631) with 15 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 42 RBI in his four Major League seasons. The Venezuela native was originally signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted free agent on April 6, 2002.

LeMahieu, 23, began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs where he hit .315 (57-for-181) with eight doubles, two triples, a home run, 26 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 19 runs scored in 43 games for the Sky Sox. The California native has a career Major League batting average of .250 (15-for-60) with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored in 37 games for the Cubs, all in 2011. LeMahieu will be looking to make his Rockies debut after being acquired by Colorado from the Cubs on December 8, 2011 along with OF Tyler Colvin for INF Ian Stewart and RHP Casey Weathers.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
