Tickets to Phillies Alumni Luncheon On Sale Wednesday

Fans invited to relive history with Phillies greats at special event on August 9

Seniors 55 and over are invited to relive history at the 3rd annual Phillies Alumni Luncheon on Thursday, August 9, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., in the Diamond Club at Citizens Bank Park. This one-of-a-kind event benefits Phillies Charities, and will go behind the scenes to some of the most exciting moments in the team’s history.

Tickets to the Phillies Alumni Luncheon, which has sold out the past two seasons, will go on sale Wednesday, May 30, at 9:00 a.m. and can be purchased only by calling 215-463-1000.

The event takes place during Alumni Weekend festivities (August 9-12), and is a continuation of the team’s tribute to its former players on www.phillies.com/alumni

Highlights include:

·  Relive history with Tim McCarver, who has been the face and voice of baseball’s biggest moments on national television. McCarver, who played for and got his broadcasting career started with the Phillies, will also share his experience of being the 2012 recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, presented annually for excellence in baseball broadcasting by the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The 70-year-old will receive this honor on Saturday, July 21, as part of the July 20-23 Hall of Fame Weekend in Cooperstown, NY. In addition to the Phillies, McCarver was also a broadcaster for three other teams, the Mets, Yankees and Giants. Nationally, McCarver broadcast for NBC, ABC, CBS and The Baseball Network. He has been on the FOX network since 1996, and has won six national Emmy Awards for “Best Sportcaster/Analyst.” Before moving into the broadcast booth, McCarver was a major league baseball player for 21 seasons (1959-1980) and appeared in three National League Championship Series with the Phillies (1976-1978).

· Reminisce with Phillies chairman Bill Giles, whose impressive baseball career includes president of the Phillies from 1981-1997, and current honorary president of the National League. Giles will chat about his experiences with the Phillies, including the moment when he advised Tim McCarver to pursue a broadcasting career. He will also share stories from his popular book: Pouring Six Beers at a Time: And Other Stories from a Lifetime in Baseball.

· Catch up with legend Bobby Wine, the former Gold Glove shortstop who played 12 seasons with the Phillies (1960; 1962-68). Wine will also share stories from his coaching experience for the Phillies (1972-83), a stint that included a World Championship in 1980 and a National League pennant in 1983. Wine retired two years ago after serving as the advance scout for the Atlanta Braves for 19 seasons.

· Hear from workhorse relief pitcher Kent Tekulve, who spent 16 years in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Phillies (1985-88) and Cincinnati Reds. Tekulve appeared in 1,050 games – all as a reliever – and set a Phillies record that still stands for the most appearances in a season, 90, in 1987. Tekulve was also a member of the Phillies broadcast team from 1991 to 1997.

· Find out what really happens prior to the game with Chris Long, Phillies Director of Entertainment, who goes behind-the-scenes and shares stories from her 41 years with the Phillies.  Long will reveal hilarious moments from thousands of pre-game events and celebrations, as well as relive the first time when the Phillie Phanatic took to the field.

· Plus, enjoy lunch in the Diamond Club, photos with the 1980 and 2008 World Series trophies, an optional tour of Citizens Bank Park and a silent auction. The event also includes a special appearance by the Phillie Phanatic and Scott Palmer, Phillies Director of Public Affairs, will emcee.
