Braves conclude day 2 of 2012 First-Year Player Draft

ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves completed the second day of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft today by selecting 14 players to add to the selection of RHP Lucas Sims from the first day of the draft. Overall, the 15 draftees included seven pitchers (five right-handed, two left-handed), four catchers, three outfielders and one infielder. Sims, a right-handed pitcher, was Atlanta’s number one pick overall (21st selection overall) and was one of five high school players chosen Braves. The remaining 10 players drafted were chosen out of college.

“We were very surprised that left-handed pitcher Alex Wood was still available.” said Tony DeMacio, the Club’s director of scouting of Atlanta’s second-round selection out the University of Georgia. “We were very happy to get such a great left-handed power arm.”

The 40-round First-Year Player draft will conclude Wednesday (June 6) at 12:00 p.m. ET with rounds 16 through 40. Atlanta’s will select 21st in all remaining rounds of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
