Rangers make 43 selections in 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft

The Texas Rangers selected 25 players today in the final day of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, which included rounds 16 through 40.

The Rangers selected 43 players overall in this year's draft. The 43 players include 26 pitchers (18 right-handed, 8 left-handed), 9 outfielders, 5 infielders, and 3 catchers.  Texas selected 24 college players and made 19 high school picks.  Some notable Rangers picks on the final day of the draft:

• In the 21st round, club selected right-handed pitcher Jacob Lemoine from Bridge City High School, near Beaumont. Lemoine is committed to the University of Houston.
• Selected RHP Ryan Bores out of Kent State University in the 27th round.  The Rangers also selected Bores in the 26th round of the 2011 draft.
• Selected left-handed pitcher Alex Young in the 32nd round out of Carmel Catholic (IL) HS.  Young was rated as the 6th-best high school left-hander in the draft by Baseball America and is committed to TCU.
• Tabbed China Spring High School's LHP Sterling Wynn as its 36th round selection. Wynn was rated the 90th-best prospect in Texas by Perfect Game and is committed to Baylor.
• In the 37th round, club selected right-handed pitcher Matt Withrow from Midland Christian High School. Withrow's brother, Chris, was a first round selection by the Dodgers in 2007 and is currently with Double-A Chattanooga. Matt is committed to Texas Tech.
