D-backs recall Corbin from Reno, activate Drew from disabled list, place Hudson on disabled list and option Albaladejo to Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced today they have recalled left-handed pitcher Patrick Corbin from Triple-A Reno, activated infielder Stephen Drew from the 15-day disabled list, placed right-handed pitcher Daniel Hudson on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm tightness and optioned right-handed pitcher Jonathan Albaladejo to Reno, according to D-backs’ Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Corbin, 22, went 3-2 with a 3.86 ERA (16 ER in 37.1 IP) and a .289 opponents average with 12 walks and 33 strikeouts in 6 starts at Reno. During his first stint with the D-backs from April 30-May 22, he went 2-3 with a 5.27 ERA (16 ER in 27.1 IP) and a .288 opponents average with 9 walks and 18 strikeouts. He won his Major League debut, 9-5 at Marlins, on April 30 as the fourth-youngest pitcher to make his first big league start for the D-backs. In 4 starts for Mobile, he was 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA (5 ER in 27.0 IP) and .234 opponents average with 8 walks and 25 strikeouts.

Drew, 29, returns from a fractured right ankle injury suffered on July 21, 2011. His most recent rehab appearance was for Double-A Mobile on Monday vs. Montgomery as he went 0-for-3 with a walk. In 2 rehab outings with Mobile, he batted .200 (1-for-5) with 4 walks. In 9 rehab appearances with Reno, he hit .250 (9-for-36) with a double, a triple, 2 homers and 5 RBI.

Hudson, 25, was removed from last night’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the second inning with right forearm tightness and is expected to return to Phoenix today for a MRI. In 9 starts this season, he is 3-2 with a 7.35 ERA (37 ER in 45.1 IP). He was previously sidelined from April 21 (retroactive to April 19)-May 26 with a right shoulder impingement.

Albaladejo, 29, pitched in last night’s game at the Braves, allowing 2 runs on a hit and a hit batter over 1.0 inning. In a pair of stints with the D-backs (also April 21-24), he has appeared in 2 games. In 28 games for the Aces, he is 3-1 with 13 saves, a 2.64 ERA (9 ER in 30.2 IP) and a .190 (20-for-105) opponents average with 12 walks and 33 strikeouts. Among Pacific Coast League relievers, he is second in opponents average and tied for third in saves.
