Bill Geivett named Senior Vice President of Major League Operations

Geivett to Oversee Day-To-Day Operations of Major League Club

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has named Bill Geivett Senior Vice President of Major League Operations. Geivett, 49, was formerly the Rockies Senior Vice President - Scouting and Player Development/Assistant General Manager. In his new position, Geivett will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Major League club. Geivett will continue to report to Executive Vice President/Chief Baseball Officer/General Manager Dan O'Dowd.

"With his extensive experience in professional baseball both on the field and in the front office, Bill Geivett is the perfect fit for this new position," said Rockies Owner/Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dick Monfort. "We are constantly looking for ways to improve our organization, and we feel that Bill's influence and leadership on a daily basis is an important addition to our Major League club."

Geivett, who has 21 years of experience in Major League Baseball, is in his 12th season with Colorado. He first joined the organization on November 11th, 2000. Geivett was named the club's Senior Vice President of Scouting and Player Development/Assistant General Manager in January of 2011. He had spent the previous seven seasons as the Rockies Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Development. Prior to being promoted to Assistant General Manager in 2005, Geivett spent the previous four seasons as Player Personnel Director.

Following a four year playing career in the Angels Player Development system, Geivett garnered his first role as a scout and organizational instructor for the New York Yankees in 1991. Following his time with the Yankees, Geivett was the Farm Director for the Montreal Expos from 1994-96. He then worked as a Special Assistant to the General Manager with Tampa Bay from 1996-98, helping to build that organization. Prior to joining Colorado, Geivett spent two years with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including the 2000 season as the Assistant General Manager.
