Ramirez returns from rehab, activated, optioned to Triple-A

BALTIMORE, MD -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager Jack Zduriencik announced today that right-hander Erasmo Ramirez has returned from his rehab assignment, was activated from the 15-day disabled list and was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.

Ramirez was sent on his rehabilitation assignment on July 25 and made three starts in AAA going 1-0, 5.11 ERA (7 ER, 12.1 IP) with 8 strikeouts. He did not allow an earned run in 6.0 innings against Oklahoma City Saturday. Overall in Tacoma this season is 4-2, 3.60 ERA (20 ER, 50.0 IP) with 37 strikeouts in 10 starts.

Ramirez, 22, left the game June 30 with discomfort in his right elbow in the third inning after throwing a first-pitch strike to Boston's catcher Mike Aviles. In two stints with the Mariners this season, Ramirez is 0-2 with a 3.82 ERA in 11 games, 4 starts with the Mariners this season. He returned to Seattle from Tacoma on June 13 as a starter, after going 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA (13 ER, 37.2 IP) in 7 starts with the Rainiers. Ramirez was on the Mariners Opening Day roster, and made 7 appearances out of the bullpen (2.45 ERA) before being optioned to Tacoma on May 5 (Shawn Kelley recalled).
