SHANNON'S FUND CHECK PRESENTATION
In 2008, the Orioles and OriolesREACH established Shannon's Fund, an endowment at the University of Maryland Medical Center to provide financial assistance to hospital patients and their families. Created in memory of Shannon Obaker - the team's former Director of Community Outreach who bravely fought cancer for over a year before passing away in 2007 at age 29 - Shannon's Fund is administered by the University of Maryland Medical Center. Funds are donated to patients and their family members as need arises to assist with the general expenses associated with the treatment process, including hospital parking, alternate housing, food costs and household bills.

On Friday, June 29, the Orioles hosted a private, exclusive fundraising event for Shannon's Fund. Fans enjoyed a visit by BRIAN ROBERTS, BRADY ANDERSON and MIKE BORDICK, refreshments, a gift bag and a lower left-field box seat. Over $10,000 was raised for the University of Maryland Medical Center to support Shannon's Fund. On Friday, August 10, the Orioles will present a check valued at $10,050 to Shannon's Fund and the University of Maryland Medical Center. Members of Shannon's Family will help present the check to representatives of UMMS.

Participants registered at their local public library and completed a "reading log" by reading books, graphic novels or magazines. The Baltimore Orioles supported the 2012 Summer Reading Program, donating tickets to every library branch in Maryland. The Summer Reading Program is a cooperative project between the local public libraries, such as Enoch Pratt Free Library and Baltimore County Public Library, the Maryland State Department of Education, and the Division of Library Development and Services, with funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

The fourth annual Orioles Player and Pet Calendar, presented by Southwest Airlines, will go on sale on Tuesday, August 14 at www.orioles.com. Through this funding, BARCS will be able to assist hundreds of additional animals in need in the Baltimore area. For additional information, see http://www.baltimoreanimalshelter.org.

Fans can sign up for the opportunity at the ballpark at any Fan Assistance Center. The lucky winner will receive four tickets to that day's game, gift certificates to use inside the park, an Orioles jersey and an Orioles prize pack.
