Padres request unconditional release waivers on INF Jason Bartlett

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Padres today have requested unconditional release waivers on infielder Jason Bartlett. Executive Vice President/General Manager Josh Byrnes made the announcement.

Bartlett, 32, was placed on the disabled list on May 17 with a strained right knee and transferred to the 60-day disabled list on June 7.  In 29 games for the Padres this year, he hit .133 (11-for-83) with five doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored. Over parts of nine Major League seasons with the Minnesota Twins (2004-07), Tampa Bay Rays (2008-10) and Padres (2011-12), Bartlett has hit .271 (849-for-3138) with 156 doubles, 26 triples, 31 home runs, 286 RBI and 432 runs scored in 889 career games.
